#093 : STEVE-O AND I LOVE THIS INCENSE / HOME FRAGRANCE REPORT
It's my most important column yet.
Yo! Sorry for the brief lapse in posting; I was “on holiday”, as the Europeans say—on a road trip from Kansas City, Missouri to New Orleans, through the fab Ozarks, and Mississippi, and so on. I really needed a break, as my book work was intense, and I was having physical burnout symptoms. A throbby “trackpad” hand is no good. And my self-editing was becoming trash.
A real break—in which you don’t open your computer, and lose all your mojo and momentum, and from which you dread coming back—is actually the very best thing for burnout. The last time I took a holiday, it was for the Brazil retreat over Christmas. I didn’t think about work for several weeks, and when I finally cracked open my computer again back in New York, my focus, motivation and flow state was elite for four straight months as I moved 110 pages from rough draft into second. Now I am on to the next 100 pages over the summer, with my next scheduled break in September.
The novel is going well, and hopefully it’s about to go a whole lot better. I just started a year-long workshop called
