#085 : CAT'S BOOK CLUB / EVERYTHING I READ IN JANUARY, PART TWO
Original publication date: Feb 9, 2024
Hey, welcome back. I’m so glad you guys seem to like these book lists! Click here if you missed part one.
As I told you, I read 22 books in January. Delivering the second half of this list on February 9th makes very little sense, but guess what, I’m the editor-in-chief and I'm a wild bitch.
Along with Nat’s Book Club’s, Melbourne-based Instagram account BazFiction’s influence is all over this second half of the list—if you’re wondering where I got my recommendations. Dude seems obsessed with Europe like moi.
List is in the order I read them. Let’s go!
___________
1) BREASTS AND EGGS by Mieko Kawakami
This was a Natalie Portman’s book club pick, and it’s published by one of my favorite publishers, Europa Editions. I disliked the title and almost didn’t read it; “womanhood”-themed stuff is rarely my thing. Oh, but I’m so glad I did, because chic Japanese author Mieko Kawakami is my new obsession. BAE is such a good book, about a single female caught between her past as a ‘tween bar hostess in magical, seedy Osaka and her potential future as a writer in Tokyo. This is in my Top 4 favorites from the whole stack of 22.
