#082 : MOST GLAMOROUS CHRISTMAS EVER / LONG ISLAND EDITION
Original publication date: Dec 22, 2023
What up! It’s the holidays here in New York, which means that yesterday, I saw the damn Grinch in a race car on Broadway.
Though it was a wildly glamorous moment, still nothing—nothing—compares to the most glamorous Christmas ever, which I personally arranged for a dispirited relative in 2021. Yes, I'm the Glamour Rainman, and yes, I saved Christmas. Read on!

My dad—who still works full time as a doctor—lives in Minnesota now, but his good friends and family are East Coast through and through. Every Christmas, he flies in and does a big circuit, visiting DC/Maryland, Philadelphia, and New Jersey/New York.
He doesn’t love NYC, but he’s always around, as all three of his adult kids have lived here. He usually stays with me for one night. We go somewhere he actually likes, like the Cloisters (to see the Unicorn tapestry), and then he leaves ASAP.
The plan for Christmas Eve 2021 was no different. My dad got into town on December 23rd and stopped at my apartment. He loves history, so we went to The Morgan Museum & Library and toured the Merchant’s House Museum.
He'd arrived with a suitcase full of wrapped gifts for his nursery school-age grandkids. On the morning of Christmas Eve, as he was packing up that very luggage, preparing to break out to New Jersey—and as I was preparing for a full day of interrupted NBA Christmas Day games—he got the call: someone in the grandkids’ household had Covid.
